WatchDNA — Where Time Connects Us All.
Hey guys, welcome to Red Belt Strombull Thursday Toronto Time Piece Edition. Yes, special edition. Yeah, I know. How are you doing?
SPEAKER_05I'm doing fine. How are you?
SPEAKER_09I'm good. I'm a little bit tired and getting ready for the weekend, but you know I'm dead.
SPEAKER_05But you shouldn't be tired. Why? Because we have a full pack of agenda for the first time.
SPEAKER_09I know, and today's Thursday. It's not even day one, it's day minus one. Minus one. It's not D-Day, you know? Yeah, it's not D-Day. Cool. Alright, so we'll do the intro very short and sweet. We'll just go see this. Is Red Bar. I see some people that we know that will just mingle today. Obviously, not a lot of uh faces that will show, but a lot of product and time pieces. Let's just have fun. It's like a little preview of the Toronto Timepiece show. Exactly. Exactly. Alright. Enjoy the show. See you later. Alright, so Thursday night in Toronto at the Red Bar events. Special edition, I will call it. Kathleen from New York coming today, you mentioned. And then Mark. Red Bar Troll. Thank you so much for having us. We're here because of Toronto Time Piece this weekend. Obviously, we all have around 85 brands, so very exciting, very interesting. Why doing this little red bar just the day before? Getting together. Tell me a little bit about tonight.
SPEAKER_04I'll start with that. So from Tessa Watches. Yeah, Another Thomas. Another Thomas, he organized this. Yeah. We did it last year as well. Yeah. And this was all inspired by Kathleen Bree years ago. And there was the Red Bar Road show that happened with some vendors for the Time Peace show. Okay. So then Thomas followed it up with friends of his in the watchmaking world. We did it last year, we're doing it this year, and he's done a fantastic job in getting these vendors together to do this show. Absolutely fantastic.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I was coming up for the show anyway, and then Mark told me that this was going on, and I love to see, I like to try and visit as many Red Bar chapters as I can in my travels. So this was perfect timing. I was flying in today, and here we are.
SPEAKER_09So obviously we met a few times, but that was a long time last time we met. And we've been following in our community, I've been following, you know, Red Bar group. Obviously, Mark been very involved, you know, once a month here, you know. But what can we expect? Is there anything specific or special that we can expect for maybe the coming months or these partnerships that you guys have?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so after the Toronto Time Peace show, the next cut sort of big watch event for us is gonna be New York Watch Week, which is which is coming up in October, where there's a whole slew of watch shows all week in in New York. It's like a lot. It's a lot going on. Uh there's now four shows going on concurrently, plus Indies, plus so it's Watchtime Wind Up, the hype, and Cellini are all having shows over the weekend. The day before that, the FHH and Indies NYC are having an event, and then we are having the Red Bar Independence Night event, which is has been the kickoff to that week ever since Watchtime has existed. So for the last 11 years, we've done it the Wednesday before. We just invite basically our members to interact with independent watch brands that are exhibiting that are in town. So they don't some of the brands will be showing watches, and some of them will just be hanging out, which is the great part. I mean, we have some of that tonight. We have some brands that are just here to hang out and have some drinks and talk to watching that's what Red Bar is all about.
SPEAKER_09Perfect, amazing. Obviously, I know this weekend is obviously the big one. But do you have any uh secret to tell us for any coming up?
SPEAKER_04No, we just actually have our monthly meeting. Yeah, uh, every what the first Wednesday of every month, various venues around Toronto.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, and I like this place by the way. This is the first time that I come in this place. I love it. Yeah, very nice. Perfect. So listen, thank you so much for taking the time to sit down with me. Enjoy the weekend and uh be like your kid in a candy store.
SPEAKER_10Alright, I am here with Thomas from Tisse Watches. What's up? Pretty cool, pretty excited to be here. You know, it's always fun. Um we just released that fun collab with uh Endo Endo and I saw that we actually posted an uh articles coming up soon. It's fun, having some fun and uh you know playing with colors and yeah.
SPEAKER_09So I was just talking to Mark from Red Barry. He told me that you're actually the one behind uh today, you're the one putting it together. Can you tell me a little bit about it?
SPEAKER_10Well, I I wanted to gather a few brands that I like to work with basically because do a nice gathering, nice event for the community. Yeah, pretty well. I think uh it's busy. We have some cool brands. That's it! Cool, yeah. So can you show us around what a little bit what do you have? We have our original model, 70s inspired field. And then last year we evolved to the architect, so using the same case, but a very different dial, 21 different components in each dial. Each half circle is handmade, hand brushed, and then assembled into a dial, different movement as well. So we're using the ETA 2892, still fun colors, people love colors, and we released uh some uh monochrome versions of it. So here I have the blue one, a blue case with the same blue dial and a bright orange uh second hand. We also have the black one which is sold out at the moment, but all black, red second hand, very popular as well, and obviously the cool the big collab, the big collab everybody's talking about, yeah, and we're really proud because um Endo's design is very recognizable with the v nail and it's a fun watch, and pairing it with our colors, so the the electric teal, the orange, and getting the matching straps as well. I think it it just works well in the end. It's a fun watch to start with, so with those colors, it's even even more fun, I think. Yeah, cool.
SPEAKER_09There we go. So we'll see you obviously at the Toronto Time Piece. If people want to discover a little bit tester watches, won't be there. Make sure you come Toronto Time Piece. Tickets are still available, I'm sure. So thank you so much, Ariya. Appreciate it.
SPEAKER_05Alright, Kekinas, what do you got here? We got the latest isotope time pieces, and just wanna highlight this purple one. I heard many watch enthusiasts talking about specifically this uh color seam as well.
SPEAKER_06Oh, I like the color.
SPEAKER_05Also, there is the jump hour as well. If you don't mind, I wanna just showcase it to you. Maybe I show it like this. I just want to highlight maybe one thing in the jump hours. Generally, we see the you know our marker here, you know, as like constant. Yeah, here it kind of changes from hour to hour, so it kind of rotates as well. I think it's such a cool detail, very unique.
SPEAKER_09That's what this brand is also offering, right? Something very unique, very designed. And you know what I like it's funny, is that we have the watches and I ask you all the questions, but we actually have the person behind the brand. Yeah, yes. So now we're going to jump with you back in Toronto.
SPEAKER_02Yes, what's new since last time we met? We have been evolving the designs in terms of quality, in terms of we have adopted a few new movements. We also have a new design on the table, so we have new versions of the chronograph, new versions of the uh jumping disc, which is not properly a jumping hour, it's more a jumping disc. We have new market tree watches, new Hydrium uh with a new bracelet as well, which is my favorite at the moment. I love this, it's very simple, very clean, but very very elegant. And the bracelet is really cool as well. So, yeah, very happy with this because this allows me to relax a little bit from colors. So it's very monochromatic, but that's that's why I like it so much.
SPEAKER_09Well, perfect! Can you tell us a little bit? Because obviously we had Cagdas doing a little bit of the talk. Maybe there's few that you can show us around.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so this one is really really cool because this is the Moonshots Thunderclub. It was designed in a collaboration with uh Matt Smith Johnson. He is a Canadian designer, and it's the first one with the telemeter bezel. When you see the lighting bolt, you activate the chronograph, and when you hear, you stop so you know how many kilometers the storm is away. We have a nice set of luminova on the dial and also on the case back. So this is something very interesting that we have for Canada and for Toronto. We also have a few market reef, the dial is made of straw. We work with Bernardo. Bernardo is an artisan. There are only three guys in the world that can really do this properly. And Bernardo, we work with him, and in the center we have black straw, and outside we have bronze straw. It looks like meteorite and bronze, but it's straw. The straw is cultivated in Burgundy, France, and then he flattens the straw, he cuts it, and he assembles the dial under a microscope, which is really cool but very very demanding.
SPEAKER_09Quick question: how long it took you from the time that you put it on paper strawing to the time that you actually produced it? About two months, more or less. Two months, okay? Two months.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Just to dial. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because this is from what we can understand, the first ever sector dial watch in marketry. I've never seen one, yeah. So that's a piece unique. We will not make the same design again. So that's it. We also have another one. Sorry.
SPEAKER_09One of the questions that I asked before you show me the next one is how do you come up with a design?
SPEAKER_02It depends. So most of them are the IPs unique, so an IP spoke. So we speak with customers, they say, I want I used to play tennis, I want to make one under the theme of tennis, yeah, or I play golf, or I studied in California, so we have to make one with the gators, etc. So there are a few themes that we can evolve in terms of design. So between us, the client and Bernardo, because throw has some limitations, we define the design and we make it. The next one you wanted to show. Yeah, so this is to celebrate the year of the oars. It's one of the most complex styles we have done so far because it has, if I'm not wrong, about 170 parts that are really really complex to assemble and to make this. So depending on the way that the straw is placed, it reacts differently from the lights, which is really cool. And on this one we have the Mercury, the Pizul 7001. Uh, it's a manual movement that is characteristic of our mercury case. What's the power reserve on that? It's about 38 hours power reserve.
SPEAKER_09We obviously have uh the whole weekend to hang out, to spend time with together. Okay, and uh yeah, so listen, what do you think about this little uh red bar event?
SPEAKER_02I love this, yeah? Yeah, I think it's that's where we feel better because almost every design we have requires people are curious to understand why. How did you get here? So a storytellers takes about 15 to 20 minutes to tell. So in a big event, it's always complex. Yeah, that's why I prefer small events.
SPEAKER_05This particles, otherwise it will be wrong in a jump hour.
SPEAKER_02It's very different. It looks similar to a jumping hour, but the model took us almost four years for the battle. It's madness. It's really complex, but outside looks very simple.
SPEAKER_07That is exactly the idea. That was Ezotov. Thank you so much. Thank you. Alright, guys, we are with Michael. Michael, and you can see the shirt, yeah, and Arnold. Alright, beautiful. Hey listen, welcome to Chihuahua. Yeah, thanks.
SPEAKER_08I enjoy, I enjoyed here uh on Tuesday. Okay, yeah, okay, today visiting and uh sightseeing. Okay, cool. What did you see? Today we visited the Garapoles. Yeah, last year there was no time for that. Yeah, so yeah, we did history district and all this stuff. Yeah. This is amazing. Where are you from? Germany. Uh Southwest Germany, directly close to the brand. Okay, cool. Perfect, okay. So, what do you have for us here? Can you tell us a little bit what you're uh showing today? So we have like nearly the whole collection with us. Okay. So the customers asked for that. Yeah, what is new? Any any two or three that you want to show the Canadian public? Maybe the most famous one is the Fox 17 ES, the flyback version. Yeah. Uh that's the closest one was Steve McQueen was wearing during his time there when he was riding motorcycles and doing some films and photographs. Yeah. That's very popular watch, and I think are one of the most sold photographs from us at the moment. Then I think one of the latest releases we have is the 36 Preventa HG12. Unfortunately, a little disclaimer, it's already sold out. But also in a cooperation with uh yeah, a lot of customers asked for us to a little smaller version of their normal HG12. So that's the free handler, the most sold free-hander watch from us. Then we do a special hardness threatening on the case. So it's at the end, it's uh 1200 Victor Hertz. On the surface, it's nearly unscratchable, and it's one of the best GADA watches, I think you tell them like that. That's one of the most sold ones and most popular ones. Yeah, so you're here obviously uh the whole weekend. We are a little bit come hang out with you. Yeah, speak, touch, try them on because it's very hard to get them here in Canada. Uh touch the watches, obviously. Yes, print them on your wrist. Not a German guy. Uh my wife will get jealous.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, exactly. It's a beer. Cool, Robert, listen, thank you so much. Yeah, you're welcome, guys. And how does it say I'll be doing? That's it. That's it. That was German.
SPEAKER_09Okay, so today is a big day. It is a big day because uh the red bar is here, but it's also a big day because my son is hanging out with me, and I'm very excited because it's his first red bar event, a family family time. I like it, I love it, I love it. Let's go check. Look, this is a very cool brand. You will discover. You know it's a cool brand when there's people around and when you have a lot of people around, and it's a cool brand.
SPEAKER_03This is 39 millimeters. That's a good size. Now, you eat the veggies, you eat your fruit, so you're gonna grow. So let me just put it on here. So, this is a good size for most people. They think they've got small wrists. And you see here, these lugs at the wrist. So, even as you're growing, that still doesn't seem too big, does it? But as you keep getting stronger, that'll be better. This watch will look great for everyone. What do you think? Yeah, that's a new watch, we call that the biscuit. You like my watch? That's called the logo because we're a little crazy. Alright? Well, thank you very much. I hope you enjoy your watches tonight.
SPEAKER_09Hello everyone! So I am with Nusaima. Wusaima from Lucy Paris. Wussi Paris, okay, and we hear the French accent, so I apologize already. Two strong French accents. So tell us a little bit about your brand because honestly, I don't know it, and I would love to learn.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, I'm very glad to be there first of all. My first time in uh in Toronto. So thank you for hosting me.
SPEAKER_09You're welcome. You know, I'm the one that signed the paperwork and did the visa application. You are. Alright.
SPEAKER_01So you see it's the name of a street in uh Saint-Germain-despied. Okay. Saint Germain-des-Pied is uh yeah, so the area of Paris.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_01I have launched uh Kickstarter, the first Kickstarter in 2022. And what I want And why? Why Kickstarter?
SPEAKER_09Yeah, oh no, why you launching a brand?
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, that's a good question. Yeah, that's uh crazy stuff to launch a brand.
SPEAKER_09I would love to know, I would love to know the DNA, the real reason behind.
SPEAKER_01The real reason is because first I was born in the watchmaking area in France. We have good cheese, you know, good wine, but also uh good manufacture of uh of watches, okay, good movements. Yeah, we used to offer some watches during the birthday in my family. My brother uh became a watchmaker. We like watches, but I was not expecting to create my own watch. I was a bit frustrated when I wanted to buy my first one because uh when I went to the shop they offered me some quartz movements, you know, some pink dial, very very feminine, but uh I I really have the design that I want and the DNA that I that I wanted to.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, for sure. So what do you got here? Can you tell us a little bit?
SPEAKER_01So here we have the first collection. It was the 38mm with some poetry on strap because you see it's about how I bring some inspiration from the written world, from poetry, the books into the design. So we have uh the dial texture like the paper 38mm. This one with uh with a surprise movement okay inside. And now I'm introducing the new collection, which is a smaller, so it's uh 38, 36, and we have also a celita movement. Okay, so it's a Swiss made, and we can notice that the numerals are drawn by a telegrapher in Paris. Yeah, okay, and we can see with the ends, no, something happens like every hour when the minute and the hour they come together, the ends, we have the shape of the fountain pen nib. Okay. So we have uh two colors that I will launch tomorrow on Kickstarter. Okay, so ivory and uh blue, and uh also details about the case. Here we have like the I don't know if you have it on the video, but it's like the slice of the book and of the inspiration. And it's all come inside a book, which is uh the packaging.
SPEAKER_09Very nice. Chapitre numero 2. Listen, thank you so much, merci beaucoup for this introduction to uh bookie listen. I I look forward to seeing you tomorrow and good luck for everything, and welcome to your Trono. Thank you, see you tomorrow. Alright, chaz. So I can talk and uh take videos all night, but I want to hang out with my son, I want to eat a little bit, so let's uh resume. How's the evening for you?
SPEAKER_05As you know, there's a saying calm before the storm because the storm is tomorrow. But it's not calm here at all, so already buzzing. Yeah, I think it's will we will be exhausted, even like I don't know where to look in the small space. I cannot imagine the Toronto time. Yeah, it'll be fine.
SPEAKER_09We'll be fine. So listen, I'm excited, it will be a cool time, cool time to hang out with people. I'm uh going to do a little bit more of uh wrist shooting, but other than that, that will be a wrap. So let's enjoy the show. Enjoy, make sure you come to Toronto Time Base if you like watches, if you're in town, and yeah, see you tomorrow. See you tomorrow.
